Experimental Offshore Forecast for Arctic Alaskan Waters
On or after June 2, 2009 the Fairbanks Forecast Office of the National Weather Service will begin an experimental
Offshore Forecast. The region north of the current Arctic Coastal Waters Forecast is divided into 3 Offshore zones.
The offshore forecast is provided for large, ocean-going vessels.
This forecast will be seasonal, and thus it will only be issued during the period when there is significant ice-free water
available for vessel navigation in at least one of the three zones. The general time frame during which this product is
issued will likely be from July into November.
